Fernanda Fehér (Brazil, 1988) is a multimedia artist who works mostly with collages
and figurative painting (water-based oil paint and watercolours) but has also been
experimenting with ceramic sculptures and installations. Fehér subverts traditional
portraiture by placing subjects in fantastic, sometimes impossible landscapes heavy
with symbolism.
The main subject of Fehér´s work is women and nature, often in a
surreal way. She has a taste for motifs, patterns, tiny details, stickers, colourful
palettes. In spite of the work appearing to be innocent and humorous, it is dealing
with the more conflicting aspects of being a woman (and mother) in a world
structured on patriarcal foundations. Relationships between human and non-human,
matter and spirit are also part of the atmosphere presented by the artist.
Fehér has participated in several exhibitions including the art fair SP Arte with Gisela Projects, group shows at Galeria Lume and Trotter&Sholer. In 2021, she had a solo show, The Conflict Between the Eagle and the Serpent, at Galeria Millan. Fehér participated in Residency Unlimited in Brooklyn in 2022 andthe Pivô Arte e Pesquisa residency in 2019 in São Paulo. In 2018, she was part of the 3331 arts residence Chiyoda, in Tokyo and also presented the exhibition Quimera, at Gallery Arte 57, São Paulo, curated by Fernando Ticoulat.
